Eye care professionals specialize in understanding how the human eye really works, as well as diseases and conditions that affect your vision—many of which do not always have obvious symptoms. Eye doctors know how age and risk factors affect vision over time for young and old, and they understand the benefits and features of corrective lenses, both as eyeglass lenses and contact lenses.
Our optometrists take the time to explain the results of your eye exam, describe your options and listen to your eye care needs. Because maintaining good eye health is an ongoing partnership, we encourage you to ask questions and share your health information, which could be vital to monitoring, diagnosing and treating potential vision problems.
Meet our doctors:
Dr. Otto grew up in a small farming town in Illinois, but moved to warmer climate for his college years at the University of Miami, majoring in Chemistry and post graduate studies in Chemical Oceanography. Deciding that a career in research was not for him he changed fields of interest and entered and completed his Optometric studies at Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, California.
Wanting to move back to Florida after graduation he decided that Key West matched a lot of the small town qualties he enjoyed as a child. He opened his practice in Key West in 1979. His older son Travis was born in Fullerton and raised in Key West and Cory was born and raised in K.W.– a conch, who now runs the office and the optical department.
Dr. Otto over the years has been involved in many civic and volunteer organizations. He is past president of the Lions Club and noon Rotary Club, he helped established and participated for many years in the grade school vision screening program and has been a long time board member of MARC.
Professionally, he has been a 31 year active member in the American Optometric Assoc. and the Florida Optometric Assoc.. His patient care is centered around having patients questions answered and providing the latest in diagnostic technology and equipment. His interest are in Macula Degeneration and Diabetic Retinopathy. He is available for appointments Monday thru Friday. New patients are welcomed.
Dr. Dedra Ling, who originates from Chicago, received her Bachelor of Science in Biology at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Upon graduation she moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida and began attending the Nova Southeastern College of Optometry.
After completion of her doctorate at Nova Southeastern, she started her career as a traveling Optometrist and worked mainly in the vicinities of Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach. In 2009 Dr. Ling turned her sights further south in search of a city with an excellent sense of community. She landed in Key West, fell in love with the city and it’s people, and is now proud to be helping her patients see better at Key West Optical.
Dr. Ling is a member of the Rotary Club of Key West, the Key West Chamber of Commerce, and leads the daily runs for the Key West Southernmost Runner's Club. Being a member of these organizations shows that Dr. Ling is passionate about her community as well as her work, and she looks forward to being your Optometrist in Key West.
